Annual Operation Winter
Disturbing reports of homeless people freezing at night made the IIS embark on an annual blanket and clothing distribution to those affected. The constant drop in temperature encourages the organization to distribute blankets to the homeless and help them stay warm. This brings excitement to many destitute, displaced, handicapped and vulnerable children in Atteridgeville, Lotus Gardens and needy White Block families.
Many of these households have no income, and therefore blankets and clothing are considered a luxury and beyond the reach of many families. The IIS also identifies beneficiaries in Tshwelopele Center for the physically and mentally handicapped (Atteridgeville). All the children at the Day Care Centers and Madressah that are run by the IIS also benefit from this noble endeavour.
The success of this initiative is due to the overwhelming response and support from the community members who resoundingly respond to this call. Besides distributing blankets and clothing, needy beneficiaries who come every week-day at the IIS 330 Carmine Street Center are also treated to hot meals. The IIS would like to appeal to the community to carry on supporting this operation with blankets and winter clothing until the end of the freezing season.
