Floods in India - 2006

The authorities in India's eastern state of Bihar sent an urgent appeal world-wide to assist the thousands who were affected. Thousands of people were affected across this poor area of India. Several towns and cities went under swirling flood waters following heavy Mansoon rains. Over 1000 people died as a result, while hundreds of thousands were rendered homeless when over 300 villages were destroyed. Crops over vast areas were destroyed and a large number of cattle and other animals perished. The following was sent through by the IIS of SA: Dried food stuff (Rice, beans, dhaal etc) tinned foods, old & new clothes and tents.
